Floods 2000 - Status Report
(Based on the reports received from concerned Dept./State Govt.)

During the period from June 1 to October 2000, the cumulative rainfall was normal to excess in 12 out of 35 meteorological sub-divisions of the country.

the outlook for the week ending October 18, 2000 -

Indicates Southwest monsoon is likely to withdraw from the entire country and northeast monsoon rain is likely to commence over South Peninsula.

Rainfall activity is likely to increase in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu & Pondicherry, Bay Islands and normal rainfall activity expected in interior parts of south Peninsula.

As per the report of Ministry of Water Resources dated the 26th

September 2000:

Unprecedented / High flood situation: Nil.

Moderate flood situation:

The rivers are flowing above the danger level but below the highest recorded level in Assam (rivers Jiabharali, Brahmaputra Dhansiri), Bihar (rivers Ganga, Bagmati, & Kosi), U.P. (river Rapti), West Bengal (river Ganga).

So far 12 States have been affected by floods,

No report received from State Governments of Maharashtra, Rajasthan and UT Administration of Chandigarh.
