Ministry of Health
DGHS is assessing the requirement of medical manpower and supplies. Teams
have been constituted and kept in readiness including that of Psychiatrists in
all Central Government institutions to be dispatched at short notice. About 90
doctors (consisting of 32 physicians including 6 psychiatrists, 41 General Duty
Medical Officers, 16 Public Health Specialists), 5 nurses and 75 paramedics
(including fumigators) have been mobilized from Central Government Institutions
to the affected areas. Of the above, a team of 52 doctors consisting of public
health specialists, medical specialists and General duty medical officers are
deployed in
A&N
Islands
to assist the UT Administration in providing medical relief. The teams from
National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS),
Bangalore
is coordinating the Psycho social relief and rehabilitation work along with
other premier institutions in the country like
AIIMS, PGI Chandigarh and Central Institute of Psychiatry,
Ranchi
. These teams undertook OPD services at Port Blair relief camps and as of now
1850 affected and severely disturbed victims were given treatment. 34 volunteers
have been trained at
A&N
Islands
. A total of 27,537 have been attended by the central medical teams. The focus
is on provision of safe drinking water, proper disposal of excreta, trench
latrines and improvement of personal hygiene. 1.5 MT of Malathion, 500 Ltrs. Of
Temephos, Fenthion and 5000 insecticide treated bed nets have been supplied to
A&N
Islands
from AP. Ministry of Health is constantly monitoring the situation and there
are no reports of any epidemic.
